Snooker’s Global Popularity
Snooker is a different version of a variety of billiard games; it was thought to have been created back in the late 19th century. Thought to have been created by those British soldiers who were serving in India at the time. A lot of the same shot and techniques are the same.
Now the game of snooker is ran by World Snooker which is part of the World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association. This organization runs the professional snooker tournaments, and other invitational events.
World Snooker is also responsible for finding sponsors for the tournaments. The popularity of snooker is increasing again. In fact World Snooker signed a nice deal with Eurosport so they could broadcast several snooker tournaments. This will allow the game to be seen in 95 million homes. These locations include Europe, North Africa, Germany, Belgium and the Middle East. The list is not a full list of where people will be able to watch the snooker games.
In China snooker is fast becoming a sport with a great following. In fact 110 million watched a match on television, that’s a staggering amount.
The United Kingdom is also a place where snooker is popular. With around four million people playing the game. Plus the amount of people who watch the game on television is around 45% of the total United Kingdom population.
Perhaps snooker’s popularity will continue and it will start to be played in more United States locations, it will only be time that will tell. But with its popularity in other parts of the world it’s a game that is sure to be around for years to come. Remember a lot of sports have started out slowly but eventually they get spread around by people who sing the praise of the new sport. This may be the only thing that the game of snooker needs.
